Textured Floral Birthday Card

This card is the remade version of something I attempted to make in a rush last week.

Have you ever put a project together and growled because something landed where you didn’t quite intend? Sometimes, the unintended is OK (or even serendipitous!). Sometimes, the whole project gets trashed because of that flaw. This time, I actually salvaged the pieces and redid the card.

Here is the original rushed version:

The two top flowers are too even for me. I had adhesive on the back of the white sentiment, and was hovering over the flowers trying to space them correctly, and I snagged the last one (top right) in the wrong place. UGH. But I put it all together anyway, thinking maybe it would not bother me so much when my frustration wore off. WRONG.

I was able to blast the top of the card with my heat gun and peel off the sentiment and flowers without ruining the blue layer. I die cut another sentiment (I had stamped extras the first time), added a layer behind it, die cut new flowers and threw in a few butterflies and sequins.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tree update:  Our neighbors had the 2 pear trees removed from between our houses yesterday.

Watercolor and Stencil Embossing Paste Valentine Card

I haven’t bought a new Valentine themed stamp set in some time – I usually just play around with things I have to make them more Valentine-y.

And then I run out of ideas for cards for my husband…there is nothing in my collection that I can modify to fit for Valentine’s Day for him.

So, this year, I watercolored a background red & blue (and I was surprised that the colors did not blend for purple in the middle…maybe the paper wasn’t wet enough when I got there?). I let that dry overnight. Next, I stenciled “falling hearts” onto the painted panel with clear embossing paste.

The shine of the embossing paste hearts is partially visible if I tilt the card towards the light for this photo.

The heart was first dry embossed (embossing folder), then die cut into the heart shape. Emboss a sentiment onto a blue scrap, and the card is done.

Supplies:  Stamp – Hero Arts, paper – Canson watercolor, Gmund Royal, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Real Red, inks – Hero Arts Unicorn, die – Spellbinders, embossing folder – We R Memory Keepers, stencil – Simon Says Stamp, embossing paste – Dreamweaver/Wendy Vecchi translucent, embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder white.

Bright Pink and Yellow Birthday Note Card

This flower stamp is from a 2007 Stampin’ Up! stamp set called Polka Dots and Paisley. It sits out near my workspace almost all of the time because it has a polka dot stamp that I use to stamp 80% of my envelope flaps (in a coordinating color).

For whatever reason, the little flower caught my eye. I stamped it using Taylored Expressions ink cubes – which worked brilliantly, and were much cleaner than trying to ink the stamp with a full size ink pad.

Supplies:  Stamps – Papertrey Ink, Stampin’ Up!, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, PopTone Razzle Berry, Taylored Expressions Lemon Meringue, inks – My Favorite Things Razzle Berry, Taylored Expressions Lemon Meringue, Lime Zest, Lollipop, dies – Spellbinders, embossing powder – Stampendous Detail clear.

Deep Purple Carnation Sympathy Card

Watercoloring consistently is still a challenge for me. I went through all the reactions to this floral piece along the way – too light (add more paint), love it (it will dry a little lighter), hate it (it didn’t dry any lighter), like it (looks better after I slept), back to love it. I used Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors, and they are definitely more opaque than other watercolors that I have.

Supplies;  Stamps – Papertrey Ink, Stampin’ Up!, paper – Arches watercolor, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Papertrey Ink Royal Velvet, inks – VersaFine Onyx Black, Smokey Gray, watercolors – Kuretake Gansai Tambi, dies – Lawn Fawn (stitched rectangle), Spellbinders (rectangle), embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear, Ranger Silver Pearl.

Sweet Little One Elephant Onesie Note Card

My card basket is lopsided on the blue to pink ratio! Add one to the blue side.

I stamped the elephant in gray and embossed. I wanted it to have more loft, so I overstamped in VersaMark (clear) and embossed again. Perfect!  Good thing I left the elephant stamp on the MISTI, so lining up the second stamping was a no brainer.

Supplies:  Stamps – Simon Says Stamp, Stampin’ Up!, Sugar Pea Designs, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Bashful Blue (retired), Night of Navy, inks – Lawn Fawn Manatee, Stampin’ Up! Bashful Blue (retired), VersaFine Clair Twilight, VersaMark, dies – Spellbinders (rectangle), Sugar Pea Designs (onesie), embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear.
