Blended Ink Plaid Birthday Card

My dad’s birthday was this week. I STRUGGLE with cards for him, I think I have mentioned before. His interests do not lie in the collection of what the crafting companies sell as masculine themed supplies. Yes, he loves sports…there are not new sport items for every holiday I need.

Think Think.

He is a colorful plaid sport shirt kind of guy. Can I make a bright plaid background?

My first try was watercolor…seems I can paint pretty straight, but I do not have good brush control (I flatten a round brush out as I go). And, as I went to do the stripes in the opposite direction, I didn’t wait for my paper to dry. Patience is NOT one of my virtues.  (Only when I am baking is patience in my toolbox!)

Hmmm…

Back to Think Think.

I did not have a large striped stencil (guess what?? 2 arrived today – gotta love online shopping!). I did have a small (3 x 4 inches) striped stencil.

I used Distress Oxide Ink – Salty Ocean in one direction, Peacock Feathers in the other. I started with a half sheet of cardstock (5.5 x 8.5 inches), so I had at least 6 iterations of “tape stencil down, blend ink, remove stencil, wash stencil” for each color. I am happy with the result.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies: Stamp – Stampin’ Up!, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Pacific Point, inks – Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Oxide Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, VersaFine Onyx Black, dies – Spellbinders, stencil – Heidi Swapp, embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear.

Turquoise Birthday Beetle Card

This got delivered to HorseSpirit Arts Gallery last week.

I’ve been too busy and preoccupied to stamp this week – my 80 year old Mom crashed her car head on into a tree on Saturday morning. She is bruised, scraped, sore…and her hands are burned from the airbag. (Did you know airbags could burn you? (chemical burns) Even melted 2 layers of outerwear on one wrist.) No breaks, fractures or stitches – AMAZING!. Spent Saturday in the ER with her, lots of things to help with, doctor’s appointments to keep straight.

Supplies: Stamps – Papertrey Ink, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Basic Gray, Tempting Turquoise, inks – Copic B0000, B02, C3, C5, YR04, VersaFine Onyx Black, dies – Lawn Fawn (stitched rectangle), Spellbinders (circles), embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear.
