Hibiscus Birthday Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#76

ric76 hibiscus birthday

Here is my take on the current Runway Inspired Challenge, ric#76.

The inspiration was from the Spring 2015 collection of Craven.

I was inspired by the colors in the blocks on the jacket and purse, and the black line on the buttery runway. I stamped the flowers on watercolor paper, and added a tiny ditz trio with the Copic Multiliner. I like the background I stamped, I liked how it looked cut in half, mounted on the black paper.

Then, I will admit, I got a little lost. I added the sentiment, mounted on a red layer to look a bit like a buckle across the two floral pieces. I am not sure if I like the red accent now that I have it all glued together.

Thanks for stopping by!

Watercolor Encouragement Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#75

ric75 watercolor moment to smile

This card is inspired by the latest Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#75).

I created this card as a back up to yesterday’s tulle window shaker card – just in case execution with tulle went horribly wrong.

I watercolored in pink, let it dry, then embossed on top. Mounted the piece on a top fold watercolor card.

Here is the inspiration piece, from the Ralph Lauren Spring 2015 collection:

Valentine Shaker Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#75

ric75 tulle shaker valentine

So, my original vision for the latest Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#75), was to make a photo frame into a shaker card using tulle instead of plastic film. I ended up ditching the die cut frame after 3 unsuccessful attempts.

And, yes, I actually had hot pink tulle in my house. (left over from wedding favor project circa 2004 or 2005?) Doesn’t everybody?   😉

Here is a close up of the tulle window:

Definitely a card that will need to be hand delivered – a tulle window is not sturdy enough to mail.

Thanks Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#74

ric74 thanks

The current Runway Inspired Challenge – ric#74, is based on this inspiration look from the Escada Spring 2015 collection:

ric74 Escada

I was inspired by the variegated color, and by the different angles of the print on the bottom of the dress.

To make the variegated color on my card, I masked off the bottom of the card, then used my Ink Blending Tool to apply Distress Inks through a stencil. First, with Squeezed Lemonade, then twice with Spiced Marmalade. Between ink applications, I rotated the stencil. When I was done with the stencil, I applied a very light coat of Spiced Marmalade over most of the stenciled area. I added thin strips of Pumpkin Pie cardstock as a border along the bottom of my pattern, inspired by the skinny belt. The jewel is a nod to a fancy purse clasp.

Here is the Heidi Swapp stencil I used:

I really love the Runway Inspired Challenges – they make me think.

Awesome Chevron Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#73

ric73 awesome

Here is my card for the lastest Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#73).

The inspiration piece, from the Balmain Spring 2015 collection, is colorful and bold:

ric73 Balmain

I used a new Hampton Arts adhesive stencil (no masking tape required!) to create the pattern with my Kuretake watercolor paints on regular cardstock (not watercolor paper). I added a horizontal strip of glossy black paper to make up for the fact that I didn’t quite center my sentiment within the chevron pattern.

I applied the watercolors rather heavily, I wanted the color to be bold. I was surprised that the finished painting was glossy in spots – I am assuming that is related to how thickly I applied the paint.

And I resisted the urge to splatter something sparkly/shiny (like Wink of Stella or Perfect Pearls) onto the finished card. This card works for any of my offspring just the way it is, sparkly things would limit my potential recipient audience!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Off to the doctor for another lung check.

Golden Butterfly Birthday Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#72

ric72 birthday

This is my attempt at capturing the spirit of the latest Runway Inspired Challenge – ric#72.

I used mirror finish gold metallic paper to capture the shine of the original. The dots were created with a marker and a stitching stencil (Darice).

Thank You Shaker Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#71

ric71 thanks

The current Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#71) , is a tribute to iconic designer Oscar de la Renta, who recently passed away. Eight looks from his Spring 2015 show were provided as inspiration.

I chose this look:

The transparency of the dress immediately put VELLUM in my head. And the floral design reminded me of some washi tape that Offspring3 bought for my birthday last month.

I cut a frame of royal blue using Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangles, and mounted vellum to the back of the frame. I added the washi tape to the back of the vellum (to diffuse the color more). I put two “thank you” die cuts together (and trimmed off one layer of the “u” that would sit on the blue frame), and mounted on the front of the vellum. I wanted the frame to be raised, so I added foam tape to the back. Hmmm….how about some sequins behind that frame?? I couldn’t resist, although I am wondering if I will ever use a shaker thank you card! No worries, I will find a use for it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies: Paper – LCI Paper Royal, Papertrey Ink White, Stampin’ Up! Vellum, dies – Lawn Fawn (stitched rectangles), Papertrey Ink (thank you), washi tape – Recollections, sequins – Doodlebug Designs.
