Thanks Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#74

ric74 thanks

The current Runway Inspired Challenge – ric#74, is based on this inspiration look from the Escada Spring 2015 collection:

ric74 Escada

I was inspired by the variegated color, and by the different angles of the print on the bottom of the dress.

To make the variegated color on my card, I masked off the bottom of the card, then used my Ink Blending Tool to apply Distress Inks through a stencil. First, with Squeezed Lemonade, then twice with Spiced Marmalade. Between ink applications, I rotated the stencil. When I was done with the stencil, I applied a very light coat of Spiced Marmalade over most of the stenciled area. I added thin strips of Pumpkin Pie cardstock as a border along the bottom of my pattern, inspired by the skinny belt. The jewel is a nod to a fancy purse clasp.

Here is the Heidi Swapp stencil I used:

I really love the Runway Inspired Challenges – they make me think.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a Happy New Year’s Eve!

Supplies: Paper – Papertrey Ink White, Stampin’ Up! Pumpkin Pie, Sahara Sand, inks – Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Ink Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, die – Taylored Expressions. stencil – Heidi Swapp, jewel – EK Success Swarovski Elements.

Awesome Chevron Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#73

ric73 awesome

Here is my card for the lastest Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#73).

The inspiration piece, from the Balmain Spring 2015 collection, is colorful and bold:

ric73 Balmain

I used a new Hampton Arts adhesive stencil (no masking tape required!) to create the pattern with my Kuretake watercolor paints on regular cardstock (not watercolor paper). I added a horizontal strip of glossy black paper to make up for the fact that I didn’t quite center my sentiment within the chevron pattern.

hampton arts chevron stencil

I applied the watercolors rather heavily, I wanted the color to be bold. I was surprised that the finished painting was glossy in spots – I am assuming that is related to how thickly I applied the paint.

ric73 awesome side view

And I resisted the urge to splatter something sparkly/shiny (like Wink of Stella or Perfect Pearls) onto the finished card. This card works for any of my offspring just the way it is, sparkly things would limit my potential recipient audience!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Off to the doctor for another lung check.

Supplies: Stamp – Paper Smooches, paper – California Paper Goods glossy black, Papertrey Ink White, ink – VersaFine Onyx Black, paints – Kuretake watercolors, stencil – Hampton Arts, embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder.

Thank You Shaker Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#71

ric71 thanks

The current Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#71) , is a tribute to iconic designer Oscar de la Renta, who recently passed away. Eight looks from his Spring 2015 show were provided as inspiration.

I chose this look:

ric71 oscar de la renta

The transparency of the dress immediately put VELLUM in my head. And the floral design reminded me of some washi tape that Offspring3 bought for my birthday last month.

I cut a frame of royal blue using Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangles, and mounted vellum to the back of the frame. I added the washi tape to the back of the vellum (to diffuse the color more). I put two “thank you” die cuts together (and trimmed off one layer of the “u” that would sit on the blue frame), and mounted on the front of the vellum. I wanted the frame to be raised, so I added foam tape to the back. Hmmm….how about some sequins behind that frame?? I couldn’t resist, although I am wondering if I will ever use a shaker thank you card! No worries, I will find a use for it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies: Paper – LCI Paper Royal, Papertrey Ink White, Stampin’ Up! Vellum, dies – Lawn Fawn (stitched rectangles), Papertrey Ink (thank you), washi tape – Recollections, sequins – Doodlebug Designs.

Encouragement Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#70

ric70 encouragement

Here is my entry for the latest Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#70).

I struggled with this challenge because I saw the drop dead gorgeous cards that were posted by others. Usually, I try to NOT look at what other people have created. But, over the last week I saw several on blogs I read daily, Amy Rohl – Ink About Me  , Kittie Caracciolo for Ellen Hutson’s The Classroom . Sometimes, I find it difficult to see past what a real artist sees. Intimidated, I am!

Anyway, down to the last minute for me. I wanted it to be easy to mail, so a one layer card. All images are embossed. My inspirations were the vertical red, and the shine from the black elements on the dress. I stamped my envelope first, and, OH, my design was born.

My envelope:

ric69 birthday

Here is my take on the latest Runway Inspired Challenge ric#69 .

The inspiration for this challenge was this look from Cynthia Rowley’s Spring 2015 collection:

I struggled a bit with this, sometimes my brain wants to be too literal and I don’t have the supplies my brain wants to use. So, I chose to use the colors, the flower to the right of the model, and a vertical black accent.

Thanks for stopping by!

Diamond Thinking of You – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#68

ric68 thinking of you

The current Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#68) really made me put on my thinking cap.  And I had to watch a few episodes of “Sex in the City” to really get the spirit of Carrie Bradshaw.  😉

The inspiration is this great shoe by Manolo Blahnik:

ric68 manolo blahnik

I stamped two different diamond background stamps on cream cardstock, embossed the floral outlines with gold embossing powder, and die cut each flower.  The greeting is also done in gold. The most difficult part was trying to keep the diamonds parallel to each other when adhering the flowers.

Supplies: Stamps – Stampin’ Up!, paper – Papertrey Ink Vintage Cream, inks – Stampin’ Up! Cameo Coral (retired), Perfect Plum, VersaFine Onyx Black, dies – Stampin’ Up!, embossing powder – Stampin’ Up! Gold Embossing Powder, metallic cord – Stampin’ Up!

Floral Die Cut Birthday Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#66

ric 66 birthday v2

Here is my take on the latest Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#66).

I used the edge/die idea from Papertrey Ink’s Make It Monday #175 . The navy panel was stamped with a woodgrain stamp and embossed, and attached to the inside of the card. All of the embossing is done in navy.

Embossed Lace Sympathy Card – Runway Inspired Challenge ric#65

ric65 lace sympaty (click photo to enlarge)

The latest Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#65) is here!

Here is the inspiration look, from Louis Vuitton Resort 2015:

ric65 louis vuitton resort 2015

I was inspired by the lace blouse, and the colors. I embossed in white on cream cardstock. I cut a doily out of Night of Navy cardstock, then cut a rectangle tag out of the doily to make the layer behind the sentiment. I did debate adding crystals or enamel dots, but thought it was better left unembellished.

I can’t think of Louis Vuitton without thinking of the movie “Leap Year” – Anna (Amy Adams) had a Louis Vuitton suitcase, and Declan (Matthew Goode) called it “Louis”. I can’t find my favorite clip about the suitcase, but this one will do just fine.

Barely Banana (retired), Night of Navy, inks – Papertrey Ink Fresh Snow, VersaFine Onyx Black, dies – Lifestyle Crafts (doily), Spellbinders (rectangle), embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear, white, organdy ribbon – JoAnn’s.
