I squeezed in a little time at the craft table in yesterday afternoon…and picked a stamp I had not used in a while.
The dragonfly wings were painted with Pearl Ex (and gum Arabic). The dragonfly body was watercolored.
Here is a close up of the shimmer on the wings:
This card is a 4.25 inch square. It does fit into a regular A2 envelope.
Supplies: Stamps – Altenew, Stampendous, paper – Canson watercolor, Stampin’ Up! Bermuda Bay, Crumb Cake. ink – VersaFine Onyx Black, ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Marker Cobalt Blue (031), watercolors – Kuretake Gansai Tambi, Pearl Ex Duo Blue-Green, die – Stampin’ Up!, embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear.
I only own one Technique Tuesday stamp set – this sunflower and a few words. I used the sunflower last year for a thank you note project, and didn’t know if I would come up of a unique way to use it now.
I was inspired by a My Favorite Things release preview by Kimberly Crawford – this card , where she painted the image with metallic paint.
I embossed my sunflower with Ranger Silver Pearl embossing powder, and then painted with Perfect Gold Perfect Pearls (mixed with water) and Spring Green Pearl Ex (mixed with Gum Arabic and water). It is very shimmery – I could not catch all of the shimmer with my camera.
Supplies: Stamps – Essentials by Ellen, Technique Tuesday, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Brushed Gold, Elegant Eggplant, Stardream Silver, ink – VersaFine Onyx Black, die – My Favorite Things, mica medium – Pearl Ex, Perfect Pearls, embossing powders – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear, Ranger Silver Pearl.
I was so inspired by the lumpy little snowman (what is he made out of…meringue? so cute!), the different shades of blue, and the pearl heart pins.
I started by watercoloring a background in two shades of blue using Sakura Koi water colors. When that was dry, I mixed Micro Pearl (#650) Pearl-Ex with Pearl-Ex Varnish, and painted that over the “ground” section of my background. After the varnish dried, I die cut the background with a Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle die.
I have 2 Essentials by Ellen stamp sets (Bold Blooms and Wish Big), and 3 sets of dies (Bold Blooms Matching, Bold Blossoms Stand Alone, and Wish Big). How the frack am I going to make a snowman?? In the end, I used the two solid not quite circle dies from Bold Blooms Matching for the two parts of the snowman, and part of the party hat die from Wish Big for the carrot nose.
The “wish big” sentiment was embossed using VersaFine Smokey Gray and Ranger Silver Pearl embossing powder.
I assembled the snowman, drew in eyes and mouth with a Copic Multiliner, added enamel dots for buttons, and mounted him on the sparkly background. I added the snowflakes last…so the card could be used for a birthday, the holidays, or just a snow day!
Here is a close up of the Pearl-Ex sparkle:
I am so happy with how this turned out!
Thanks for stopping by!

Brushed Silver, Marina Mist, Pumpkin Pie, inks – Copic Multiliner, VersaFine Smokey Gray, watercolors – Sakura Koi, Pearl-Ex – Micro Pearl #650, Pearl-Ex Varnish, dies – Essentials by Ellen (flowers, hat), Impression Obsession (snowflakes), Lawn Fawn (stitched rectangle), embossing powder – Ranger Silver Pearl.
Another mermaid sample. This one was Pearl Ex (Duo Red/Blue) over Perfect Medium. The turquoise layer was embossed with Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Hillside Borders, hoping to look like rolling swells instead of hillsides. 😉 Pearl Ex needs to be sealed (it rubs off), I sprayed on a Krylon product before using the white mermaid layer in the card.
Here is a photo of all of the products I tried with the mermaid stamp:
The stack that got put into the recycling bin was larger!
Supplies: Stamp – Inkadinkado, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Pretty in Pink (retired), Tempting Turquoise, ink – Ranger Perfect Medium, dies – Lawn Fawn (hillsides), My Favorite Things (shell – I snipped off the charm hole), Spellbinders (oval), mica powder – Pearl Ex Duo Red/Blue, Krylon Matte Clear Finish.
I just got this new Stampin’ Up! butterfly stamp a few weeks ago. It is HUGE – it fills the front of a 4.25 x 5.5 inch card. I decided that it needed to be iridescent, so I pulled out my collection of Pearl Ex pigments. I used the Duo Red-Blue, which appears blue on lighter colored card stock, but pink on darker colored card stock. I mixed the Pearl Ex with clear embossing powder and heat embossed the butterfly. The embossing powder seals in the Pearl Ex so it does not rub off.
