Paper and Ink Imaginings

just playing with paper and ink

Navy and Floral Wedding Card

Someone in my husband’s family is getting married next week.

I based my color and design choices on the invitation we received. (I looked it up online – the design is available from VistaPrint.)

I used the navy, the floral theme (I don’t have roses), and the oval shape.

Stamping on dark cardstock is a lot of work! Each flower or leaf was stamped first in white, then in at least one layer of color. I would not have been able to do this without my MISTI for repeat stamping.

Supplies:  Stamps – Hero Arts, Inky Antics, Paper Salon, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Night of Navy, Stardream Metallics Copper, inks – Copic RV11, Hero Arts Unicorn, Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Inks Fired Brick, Mowed Lawn, Picked Raspberry, Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Oxide Ink – Picked Raspberry, VersaFine Onyx Black, dies – Simon Says Stamp (rectangle), Spellbinders (ovals), embossing powder – Stampendous Detail clear.

Gym Pansy Note Card

Sometimes the ideas just have to play through, and I have to execute the silly inside joke to just get it out of my creative way.

My husband and I are both lucky enough to have rather healthy parents, all 4 of them are in their 80’s. Hearing skills, not so much.

On a recent visit, one of the oldsters was describing a sound as something from a CHIMPANZEE. The other oldster in the room processed the word as GYM PANSY. And just couldn’t quite make the connection to the actual word.

I thought I would pee my pants laughing when the story was relayed to me.

All I could see was a chimpanzee in a Halloween type costume (think Elizabethan collar purple pansy) at our gym.

This is what happened.  Offspring3 will appreciate it.

I do remember my mother planting pansies at our house in Connecticut (we lived there for almost 8 years – I was 3 – 10 years old). I remember weeding the flower beds. I don’t remember her ever planting them at other houses we lived in. I will have to ask her if there was something special about the soil or climate that led to her choice. Or if it was just something my grandfather (he could grow anything!) suggested.

I promise to move on to something more helpful & relevant!  🙂

Supplies:  Stamps – Avery Elle, Lawn Fawn, Paper Salon, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Office Depot transparency, Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Basic Gray, inks – Copic C3, G03, V04, V17, Gina K Designs Wild Lilac, VersaFine Onyx Black, Vintage Sepia, dies – Poppystamps (window), Provo Craft (alphabet), embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear.

Floral Anniversary Card

I had this image to color, but I didn’t have the Copic colors to match the vision in my head. Luckily, I could make it work with colored pencils.

This card is a little different than most of my “circle main image” cards. This one, I cut the circle hole into the layer of purple, so the image is behind the purple instead of resting on top. The silver frame is on top of the purple.

Supplies: Stamps – Altenew, Paper Salon, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stardream Metallics Silver, Taylored Expressions Jelly Donut, ink – VersaFine Onyx Black, pencils & blender – Prismacolor, dies – Spellbinders, embossing powders – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear, Ranger Silver Pearl.

The latest Runway Inspired Challenge (ric#94) is based on the inspiration from Houghton Bridal.

The lace was my inspiration.

I die cut flowers and leaves from Shimmery White cardstock with the Bold Blooms dies (stand alone), and glued them individually onto white cardstock.

Here is my lace background:

I attached the lace background to a top fold card, and added a sentiment (platinum embossed on black).

Edited 11/3/2015: My card got selected as one of the Fabulous Fashionistas for the challenge. Thanks to the Runway team!

Runway Inspired Challenge – ric#47 Card 1

ric47 birthday

Here is my first try at the latest Runway Inspired Challenge – ric#47.

The satin ribbon was left over from an elementary school play – I used it on a cape for a page (a herald,a footman? A character from “Cinderella”…I had to ask Offspring3!), or the banner the page was carrying. It was the year that Offspring3 was in 4th grade, the play that year was a Review of the 10 plays the school had done since opening (so a scene from each play). Offspring3 was not the page, but was in a scene from “Guys and Dolls”.

(Jeez, Offspring3 is in 11th grade…have I really had that ribbon at my fingertips for 7 years??)

The inspiration for this challenge was this design, by Alberta Ferretti:
