Faux Silk Tissue Paper Birthday Card

WAY BACK in the dark ages, at one of the stamp camp events I attended (I am remembering 2005), there was a quick lesson in the faux silk technique.

Stamp on tissue, crumple tissue, apply to white panel covered in glue stick. Easy peasy – hardest part was waiting for the stamped images to dry on the tissue paper! When it is all dry, it really does look like expensive silk.

On Tuesday I purchased a few items that were wrapped in this BEAUTIFUL tissue paper at checkout. This store always has the most beautiful tissue paper (and, alas, it is not a store I visit often!) – I have shown it before on the blog.

No stamping on this tissue – good to go as it is.

Let’s see…what else is going on…

Fall allergies & asthma have kicked in this week – too many leaves on the ground for me to breathe.

What’s up in your corner of the world?

Small Things Card

Hey there!

I finally spent a little time at my craft table again. It was nice to be stamping, coloring and ink blending.

I made a mask out of scrap paper and blended ink clouds within the oval. The hummingbird colors were from a Google image search – the wings of the hummingbird I chose were so translucent they appeared to be pale purple gray.

My final product is OK – it is not balanced, but I don’t have anything in my stash to add to the left.  (I would love to have a smaller hummingbird facing right to add there!) I should have added more blooms to the left – poor planning on my part. I added the turquoise organdy ribbon to help – and I think it does balance it a little more.

Life has been…interesting? That’s not right, but it’s the best I can come up with. Not busy – I have plenty of time and no focus. Stressful – some (parental health issues).

We did get away to the beach for a week. (Our vacation has been renting a single family home, spending time on a not crowded beach, and having carryout for dinner for years now – no big change.) I appreciated the time away, we had beautiful sunsets and entertaining seagulls. Biggest question:  why the heck was Dairy Queen “closed for the season” in early August???

Blended Floral You’re On My Mind Card

I know I posted this sentiment not too long ago, but I needed a thinking of you card.

Late in July I purchased a small set of blending brushes from The Stamp Market (The set of 3 was on sale for $11.99 – I had never tried brushes before.), this was my first time inking one of them. The brush did seem to apply ink easier than the Tim Holtz mini blending tool (I don’t have a dedicated sponge for each color, so that may be a factor). Not sure if my wrist liked the motion of the brush, though.

Sh*t Could Be Worse Card

This Voices in my Head stamp set from Ellen Hutson arrived Monday at lunchtime…I had this card made before I went to bed.

I stamped/embossed/colored the head on white cardstock, and fussy cut it out. It had to go on the raindrop background paper. (Raise your hand if you can hear Igor from “Young Frankenstein” say, “Could be worse…could be raining!”)

Cherry Floral Belated Birthday Card

Sunday afternoon, while ironing, I had the sudden epiphany that I had missed someone’s birthday. And I had less than an hour to make a card.

(Which, if you are wondering…an hour is plenty of time to make a beautiful card if the card you are working on has no deadline! If I am working a deadline, an hour isn’t enough because I make multiple errors along the way!  This is the 4th iteration of floral background!)

I did try to add some randomly placed gold sequins, but after 10 minutes and 2 different sizes of sequins, I was not happy with any arrangement. Less is more, right??

Supplies:  Stamps – Altenew, Papertrey Ink, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler, inks – Gina K. Designs Cherry Red, VersaFine Vintage Sepia, embossing powder – Stampendous Detail Gold, organdy ribbon – Offray.
