Stowaway Cards

Offspring3 went to Spain for 5 weeks this summer for a study abroad program.

#missedher

Of course I stashed some cards in her suitcase. For the times that Skype and Facebook messaging were not quite tactile enough.

Most of the cards contain an image or paper that she has gifted me.

Float On Encouragement Card

I have to admit, I have not been spending too much time at my craft table for the last month (read: bare minimum!). I’ve had my nose stuck to my Kindle, I am on my 11th book in 4 weeks. It has been great to get totally wrapped up in the stories. I am currently (as I type, probably done when this posts!) reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

So, on Wednesday afternoon, I was kvetching about having nothing to post for Thursday or Friday. And time was ticking away. I stumbled on the National Wear Lilly Day for Thursday’s blog post. One down, one to go.

I pulled out my previously made backgrounds folder, and found this watercolored blue one. And…maybe it looks like sea and sky.

I stamped, embossed, colored (including blue around the sailboat before I die cut, so the edge would blend into the background) and die cut the sailboat from the Essentials by Ellen Stay Salty set. And the sentiment is from the set as well.

TGIF!

Supplies: Stamps – Essentials by Ellen, paper – Canson watercolor, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Night of Navy, Real Red, inks – Copic B16, E53, E57, R29, VersaFine Onyx Black, dies – Essentials by Ellen (sailboat), Lawn Fawn (stitched rectangle), Spellbinders (circles), watercolors – Kuretake Gansai Tambi, embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear, linen thread – Stampin’ Up!

Happy Father’s Day 2017

This is one of the cards I made for my Dad. I was so excited when this idea popped into my head, and that I was able to execute the design.

My Dad is not really represented by the images available from the stamp industry. He is not into nautical, the great outdoors, cars, jets or trains. He LOVES sports (baseball being #1), he loves jokes, he loves chocolate, AND he loves his family. He still plays softball and basketball at 83.

I thought about what he would be doing on Father’s Day…watching baseball.

I found a Baltimore Oriole logo online (hey, for personal use here, to make an old guy smile), and printed it on white cardstock. I then stamped the TV over the logo, and on a separate piece of woodgrain paper. I cut the woodgrain image to use the cabinet part of the TV for paper piecing. The white cardstock with the TV got die cut with a large tag die, and I colored the wall a light blue/green, and added a piece of background paper for the flooring. And I just kept adding layers of Baltimore Oriole team colors.

I searched Google Images for “Baltimore Orioles logo”, and found one that had the resolution I needed to be able to print it. The image was from the Official Site of the Baltimore Orioles.

Supplies: Stamps – Clearly Besotted, The Cat’s Pajamas, paper – American Crafts Amy Tangerine On A Whim, Avery Elle Neutral Collection, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Taylored Expressions Build A Scene, ink – Copic BG10, VersaFine Onyx Black, Smoky Gray, die – Taylored Expressions, embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear.

Seagull Father’s Day Card

I was trying to think of a theme for a Father’s Day card for hubby…and my eyes fell on the seagull in the Stay Salty set from Ellen Hutson. Not your typical inspiration, right??

I blended the ink background, and stamped/embossed the clouds and wave crests. Think think….how do I want my seagull to be here? What about a piling, near a dock or jetty? Oohhhhh…I have that sampler pack of wood paper.

I stamped wood grain stamps onto the wood paper – just for more detail, and cut the tops by hand. The linen thread was added as rope.

Doing the happy dance about the finished card!
