Watercolor and Stencil Embossing Paste Valentine Card

I haven’t bought a new Valentine themed stamp set in some time – I usually just play around with things I have to make them more Valentine-y.

And then I run out of ideas for cards for my husband…there is nothing in my collection that I can modify to fit for Valentine’s Day for him.

So, this year, I watercolored a background red & blue (and I was surprised that the colors did not blend for purple in the middle…maybe the paper wasn’t wet enough when I got there?). I let that dry overnight. Next, I stenciled “falling hearts” onto the painted panel with clear embossing paste.

The shine of the embossing paste hearts is partially visible if I tilt the card towards the light for this photo.

The heart was first dry embossed (embossing folder), then die cut into the heart shape. Emboss a sentiment onto a blue scrap, and the card is done.

Real Red, inks – Hero Arts Unicorn, die – Spellbinders, embossing folder – We R Memory Keepers, stencil – Simon Says Stamp, embossing paste – Dreamweaver/Wendy Vecchi translucent, embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder white.

Bear Pair Valentine’s Day Card

This is the bear stamp I used on my parents Christmas cards – those I left white as polar bears. Sometime over the holidays, I saw someone else had colored the bears brown for a card – adorable.

So, I embossed the bears onto watercolor paper and gently watercolored them. The snow is even sparkly white watercolor (you can almost see it in the photo).

And, YES, this is the card I am sending to my parents for Valentine’s Day.

Supplies:  Stamps – Hero Arts, Penny Black, paper – Canson watercolor, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Real Red, inks – Hero Arts Unicorn, VersaFine Onyx Black, ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Carmine Red (022), Light Gray (091), Wink of Stella clear, watercolors – Kuretake Gansai Tambi, Sakura Koi, embossing powders – Filigree Fine Art Powder white, Stampendous Detail clear, twine – MarkerPOP.

Golden Trees Sympathy Card

Yes, one of my favorite images for sympathy cards – the line of trees. The trees and the sentiment are embossed in gold, and I watercolored the background.

Supplies:  Stamps – Papertrey Ink, Stampin’ Up!, paper – Canson watercolor, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Night of Navy, ink – VersaFine Vintage Sepia, watercolors – Sakura Koi, die – Lawn Fawn, embossing powder – Stampendous Detail gold.

Watercolor Elephant with Balloons Birthday Cards

Offspring3 requested the card on the right for a little friend.

For the balloon strings, I separated a piece of embroidery floss into the 6 individual strands, and used a needle to “sew” them through the paper (and back to the front again) to tie around the elephant’s trunk.

The most difficult time was getting the “feliz cumpleaños” sentiment straight. Each word is an individual stamp (Hero Arts). With them being different fonts, even with the MISTI (and multiple grid template options to line them up!) it took me more than 5 tries to be satisfied.

Supplies:  Stamps – Hero Arts, Papertrey Ink, Simon Says Stamp, paper – Canson watercolor, Malmero Perle green, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Pop Set Infra Violet, Stampin’ Up! Lovely Lilac (retired), Orchid Opulence (retired), inks – VersaFine Onyx Black, ZIG Wink of Stella clear, watercolors – Sakura Koi, dies – Papertrey Ink (one), Taylored Expressions (balloons, banner (left)), embossing powder – Filigree Fine Art Powder clear, floss – Iris.

Smooshed Floral Birthday Note Cards

I had a second scrap of the smooshed background left, so I cut it into two pieces and made two note cards.

(Here is the original inspiration from the Taylored Expressions blog .)

Smooshing Background Enveloper Birthday Card

I have tried the smooshing technique before, and I am never totally satisfied with my results. I was inspired by this Taylored Expressions blog post to try again.

I used Distress Ink pads, so my color tended to stay linear (pad edges).

I was encouraged enough by this to want to try it again, maybe with watercolor paint or ink pad reinkers.

No jury duty today – the recorded message indicated no one was to report.

Supplies: Stamps – Papertrey Ink, Waffle Flower, paper – Canson watercolor, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Taylored Expressions Jelly Donut, inks – Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Inks Abandoned Coral, Picked Raspberry, Shaded Lilac, Spun Sugar, Wilted Violet, VersaMark, die – Taylored Expressions, embossing powder – Stampendous Detail Gold, organdy ribbon – Offray.
