Paper and Ink Imaginings

just playing with paper and ink

Mondo Daisy Hello Card

Ellen Hutson just released this Mondo Daisy set (designed by Julie Ebersole).

OF COURSE I needed a daisy set!

For this first play session, I stamped the daisy with Gina K. Designs Amalgam ink (which works with all coloring mediums without running or bleeding) onto Strathmore Bristol paper. And I did not use embossing powder (which I usually do when I am coloring any image). I used ZIG Clean Color Real Brush pens and a water marker to color the daisy. It was too muted for me after my first try, so I added multiple layers of color with just the Real Brush pens. Now I have the bright Gerbera daisy I was aiming for.

The sentiment was a tiny bit of a mistake – I stamped twice for coverage, but my paper shifted a smidgen and the image was offset just a tidge, so it is a little bolder than intended.

Supplies:  Stamps – Essentials by Ellen, paper – Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Strathmore Bristol, inks – Gina K. Designs Amalgam, ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens Brown (060), Cobalt Blue (031), Green (040), Light Green (041), Orange (070), Yellow (050).

Lilly Pulitzer Square Hello Card

I’ve been struggling with my creative mojo for some time now. Just part of life, my mind is working overtime on things to fret about.

On Monday, I decided to do a purge on my card basket. I pulled out 40 cards. Went through them repeatedly…are these worthy of giving away? (or should I just trash them??) Yes, they were fine to give away. I texted a neighbor and asked if she would like some free greeting cards (knowing she works with people who like my cards – she could spread the windfall around if she wanted). By 2:00pm, the cards were out of my house.

I felt relieved. Lighter.

And with that, the mojo flowed.

I found a scrap of hoarded Lilly Pulitzer advertisement in my stash, and this card made itself.

And here is what I am listening to as I type.  #LesMiserables

Supplies:  Paper – Lilly Pulitzer mailer, Neenah Classic Crest Solar White, Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, die – Essentials by Ellen.

Gym Pansy Note Card

Sometimes the ideas just have to play through, and I have to execute the silly inside joke to just get it out of my creative way.

My husband and I are both lucky enough to have rather healthy parents, all 4 of them are in their 80’s. Hearing skills, not so much.

On a recent visit, one of the oldsters was describing a sound as something from a CHIMPANZEE. The other oldster in the room processed the word as GYM PANSY. And just couldn’t quite make the connection to the actual word.

I thought I would pee my pants laughing when the story was relayed to me.

All I could see was a chimpanzee in a Halloween type costume (think Elizabethan collar purple pansy) at our gym.

This is what happened.  Offspring3 will appreciate it.

I do remember my mother planting pansies at our house in Connecticut (we lived there for almost 8 years – I was 3 – 10 years old). I remember weeding the flower beds. I don’t remember her ever planting them at other houses we lived in. I will have to ask her if there was something special about the soil or climate that led to her choice. Or if it was just something my grandfather (he could grow anything!) suggested.

I promise to move on to something more helpful & relevant!  🙂
