Hippo Birthday Card – Essentials by Ellen August 2015 Mix It Up Challenge

This month’s Essentials by Ellen Mix it Up Challenge is with Clearly Besotted.

Lucky for ME, I won a gift certificate from Ellen Hutson for last month’s Pin-Sights Challenge, so I was able to purchase another Essentials by Ellen stamp set.

No Bold Blooms for this challenge.  😉 This set is called Wish Big.

And, I have one Clearly Besotted stamp set. I am good to go!

I cut a mask using Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Hillsides, to help me color the sky and the grass (using Distress Inks and a Heidi Swapp stencil). I drew the horizon line with a Copic Multiliner by tracing the mask. The hippo, party hat and sentiment were all embossed, and the hippo was colored with Copic markers. The lovely purple ribbon is from a previous Ellen Hutson order (you get a yard of ribbon as a thank you with an order – I have quite the stash!).

Here are my sky and grass masks:

  1. Totally Adorable! Love the dotted sky/grass combo! Everything looks fantastic 🙂

  2. Congrats Kathy – I would love to win an Ellen Gift Certificate as I’m a frequent flyer at her store. I love your card – that hippo is adorable and clever use of that die.

    • Thanks so much, Kathy! I was thrilled to be the random winner (and shocked that more people don’t participate in the Ellen challenges with $50 at stake!).

  3. I too really like the dots. Very cool technique.
